What size Hoverboard should I buy?
Hoverboards generally come in three sizes, which is determined by the diameter of the wheels. The standards sizes are 6.5″, 8″, and 10″.
Unless you’re buying for a young child you can buy whatever size Hoverboard you like best. For young children (under 10), you should always buy a 6.5 inch Hoverboard. The small size is easier for them to control and lighter weight for when they need to carry their Hoverboard. Check out our 6.5″ Bluetooth Hoverboards to see some models in that size!
For adults, most Hoverboards indicate a maximum weight load and you should keep that in mind as you shop. The 6.5″ can support adults up to 220 lbs, which is why this model is also the most popular for adults as well. The 8″, 10″, and Off-Road model are built to support riders up to 260lbs. Consider the specs for each model when you’re making your final decisions.
What should I consider when buying a hoverboard?
Safety – In the United States, all Hoverboards must meet legally set safety standards to receive a UL 227 safety certificate. These requirements include electrical and fire safety testing to prevent issues that caused the battery fires plaguing many Hoverboard models in 2015. Every Hoverboard we sell is UL2272 certified, so you can be confident in your purchase. However, you should be cautious ordering Hoverboards from sites like Alibaba or eBay which may be selling Hoverboards that have not undergone the required safety testing. If the Hoverboard you’re considering does not mention UL 2272, stay away!
Features – Do you need Bluetooth speakers so you can listen to music while you ride? How long of a travel distance do you need between recharges? Every Hoverboard we sell includes Bluetooth & Speakers, LED Fender Lights, Non-Slip Footpads, Extended Range Battery (8-12 miles per charge), and Free 90-day Warranty.
Price – Because of the new UL2272 safety requirements on Hoverboards in the USA, you need to avoid or at least be skeptical of any Hoverboard under $145 as many Hoverboards online contain fake certification.
